Digital Security Training (DST) At Jamia Millia Islamia

On 09 February, 2024, Team SFLC.in, conducted Digital Security Training (DST) at The Faculty of Law in Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi. The training session was designed to equip the students and faculty members of the Law Department at Jamia Millia Islamia with a comprehensive understanding of safeguarding digital presence and privacy so that they could navigate the digital world securely.

 

 

The Digital Security Training (DST) session was conducted by Vignesh, Technologist, SFLC.in and Syed Mohammad Haroon, Research Fellow, SFLC.in.

Topics Covered:

  • Privacy: Legal implications and aspects of privacy

  • Online Gender-Based Violence: Legal resources that women can utilise to address cybercrimes and online harassment

  • Data Profiling: Covered practices employed by different entities that profile internet users based on their online activities

  • Threat Modelling: Hands-on exercises to equip citizens with better understanding of their personal data and how to keep it safe

  • Safety Measures: Best practices to develop healthy habits to ensure safety of digital devices/services

  • Privacy/Security Tools: Effective tools to enhance the privacy and security of an individual’s digital content

  • Social Media Security: Insights on optimising the privacy settings of different social media platforms/apps effectively

  • Encryption: Fundamentals of encryption and protection of devices from external threats

  • Legal Fundamentals: Laws, legislation and legal procedures for phone tapping, search and seizure etc.

  • Data Breaches/Leaks: Strategies to identify, classify data and respond to data breach/leaks with appropriate measures to ensure online safety

  • Spyware and Stalkware: Safety and security practices for early detection of spyware and stalkware threats

 

The Digital Security Training (DST) session was a success. The Dean of the Faculty of Law, Jamia Millia Islamia, also suggested conducting DSTs in other departments of the university in the future.
